Beauty as Necessity. Weavings and Paintings from the Otten Collection
2. Oktober 2010 – 29. Juli 2011
Following exhibitions of the Russian Avant-Garde and works by Gottfried Honegger, the Otten Kunstraum´s third exhibition will focus on a comparison of woven and painted works. A shoulder mantle from Peru, a poncho from Guatemala, silks in ikat-technique from Southeast Asia, and woven fabrics from Persia will be shown together with nonobjective works by artists such as Eduardo Chillida, Marie-Antoinette Courtens, Adolfo Estrada, Helmut Federle, Johannes Itten and Sean Scully.
A reduced formal language, harmony of colors, contemplative aesthetics – the exhibition “Beauty as Necessity. Weavings and Paintings from the Otten Collection” will focus on questions regarding the visual relationships between textiles and pictures created in different culture groups and with differing motivations.
