Die elfte Ausstellung im Otten Kunstraum in Hohenems ist Roland Stecher gewidmet. Seit 1988 gestaltet er Rauminstallationen für Galerien, Museen und Kulturhäuser sowie Kunst am Bau Projekte und Entwürfe für den öffentlichen Raum. Auffallend ist sein ausgeprägtes Interesse für die Linie im Raum, die im Dialog mit der Architektur oder mit ihresgleichen Spannungen und Überschneidungen erzeugt.

 

Seit fünf Jahren entwickelt Roland Stecher in seinem Atelier in Götzis/Vorarlberg mithilfe von Farben, Formen und Spannungen eine neue Bildsprache, die bislang nur wenigen Eingeweihten bekannt ist. In seinen großformatigen Zeichnungen auf Holztafeln spielen Konzentration und Verdichtung sowie Grenzen, aber auch Auflösung eine zentrale Rolle. Die aus Kreissegmenten entwickelten, gleichsam filigran wie kraftvoll wirkenden Arbeiten sind durchdrungen von Konzentration, sie vereinen Zeit und Geschichte in sich und sie eröffnen den Betrachterinnen und Betrachtern einen scheinbar schwerelosen Raum. 

 

Roland Stecher sucht nach der Entstehung der Form, sein Interesse liegt genauer gesagt an jenem Punkt, an dem sich Formen bilden. Indem er eine Linie in Beziehung zu oder in Berührung mit einer zweiten bringt, entsteht etwas Neues, völlig anderes. Ganz im Sinne von Aristoteles ist das Ganze mehr als die Summe seiner Teile. In der neueren Philosophie spricht man von Emergenz und bezeichnet damit das Phänomen, dass sich manche spontan und unvorhersehbar auftretenden Eigenschaften eines komplexen Systems nicht allein aus seinen Teilen erklären lassen.

Im Verlag für Moderne Kunst erscheint ein reich bebilderter Katalog mit Beiträgen von Ingrid Adamer, Gerald Futscher, Roman Lichtenecker und Wolfgang Mörth in deutscher und englischer Sprache.

 

 

Vernissage: Hommage an Gottfried Honegger

Als Hommage an Gottfried Honegger wurde im Otten Kunstraum eine Ausstellung eröffnet, in der frühe Malereien sowie Skulpturen, Collagen und Grafiken aktuellen Reliefs gegenübergestellt werden. Kuratorin Dr. Ingrid Adamer führte in die Ausstellung ein, im anschließenden Dialog mit Dr. Guido Magnaguagno und Ruedi Christen, zwei Wegbegleitern von Gottfried Honegger, wurden den zahlreichen Besucherinnen und Besuchern die Persönlichkeit und das Wirken des 2016 im hohen Alter von 98 Jahren verstorbenen Künstlers lebendig nähergebracht.

Kann Geometrie mehr sein als Ordnung und Strenge? Wie viel Poesie steckt in geordneten Strukturen und Gesetzmäßigkeiten? Kuratorin Dr. Ingrid Adamer führte in die Ausstellung mit Werken von 14 internationalen Kunstschaffenden ein. Zur Eröffnung eigens aus Holland angereist war die Künstlerin Marie-Antoinette Courtens, die ebenso wie der Vorarlberger Bildhauer Armin Rupprechter gerne auf Fragen der BesucherInnen einging.

The exhibition Eight without Object offers exciting insights into the multi-facetted spectrum of non-objective art. The numerous visitors at the opening showed great interest in the diverse approaches to non-objectivity an took advantage of the opportunity to speak to the artists with roots in Vorarlberg.

Landesrat Harald Sonderegger invited numerous artists and persons engaged in the cultural sector to the Otten Kunstraum in Hohenems for the last cultural get-together of the year. Following an introduction by art collector Wilhelm Otten, curator Ingrid Adamer gave a tour through the current exhibition Transcriptions. Six Artists from Moscow.

Based on the works in current exhibition Transcriptions. Six Artists from Moscow, students of the Marienberg in Bregenz developed interdisciplinary works such as paintings, postcards, texts, and spatial installations. These successful works as well as a performance were admired by the students´ teachers and parents at the presentation. The spatial installation by the students can be seen until the end of the exhibition on 5 December 2013 in the foyer.

Numerous visitors showed great interest in the remarks of curator Ingrid Adamer and Wilhelm Otten on the works in the second part of the exhibition Transcriptions. Six Artists from Moscow. Musical accompaniment was provided by the pianist René Frühwirth and Hans Reinhardt.

On the occasion of the opening of the second part of the exhibition "Transcriptions. Six Artist from Moscow", Wilhelm Otten welcomed the artist Elena Preis, Vasily Kandinsky´s grandniece, who travelled to Hohenems from Moscow to attend this event, as well as the art historian and Kandinsky expert Jelena Hahl-Fontaine. Numerous visitors used the opportunity to view the abstract works of the Russian artists Oleg Kudryashov, Vasily Pavlovsky, and Elena Preis.

Alexander Konstantiov, Valery Orlov, and Alexandra Mitlyanskaya travelled all the way from Moscow to celebrate, together with numerous visitors, the opening of the first part of the exhibition “Transcriptions. Six Artists from Moscow” at the Otten Kunstraum. The guests were impressed by the diversity of the works by the artists who are connected to the spiritual heritage of the Russian Avant-Garde, yet who “transcribe” this by means of their choices of technique and forms of expression. Photographs are shown in the foyer of the Otten Kunstraum, and the former oil tank is the venue for an impressive installation.

 

 



ORF Long Night of the Museums at the Otten Kunstraum

95 year old Gottfried Honegger embraced the opportunity to come to Hohenems from Zurich in order to take part in the ORF Long Night of the Museums at the Otten Kunstraum and to speak to the visitors. “La Viseur”, the game developed by Honegger in order to help children develop creative vision, met with great interest. This stimulating form of creating one´s own pictures captured the attention of many adults, and several teachers took advantage of the offer to borrow “Le Viseur” free of charge for use in their classes.

The opening of his current exhibition at the Otten Kunstraum became a celebration of Gottfried Honegger. The private museum invited numerous guests on the occasion of the Swiss artis´t´s 95th birthday.
The many visitors enjoyed the reliefs and sculptures from Gottfried Honegger´s most recent creative period. The new book, Gottfried Honegger, 34699 Tage gelebt. Eine autobiografische Skize, published by Limmat Verlag Zürich and a publication of the Otten Kunstraum, was also presented on this evening. Among other things, the remarkable talk given by the artist on this special occasion is printed in this book. The presentation of the sculpture edition “Z 231” in cooperation with the Rotary Club Vorarlberg met with overriding public interest. Gottfried Honegger provided the design for the sculpture free of charge. The piece was then accordingly produced in an edition of 20 pieces. The proceeds from the sale go to “Tischlein deck dich” in Vorarlberg.

Numerous visitors attended the “Open House” and took the opportunity to meet the artist Karl-Heinz Ströhle and become acquainted with his works. Together with Wilhelm Otten and Ingrid Adamer, the artist guided visitors through the exhibition and gave insights into the process of producing his works. The dancer Tom Hanslmaier presented a choreography developed exclusively for the Otten Kunstraum. In the performance “Gregor Samsa” he interacted intensely with Karl-Heinz Ströhle´s flexible sculptures.

This year the Otten Kunstraum presented itself with the recently opened exhibition “Karl-Heinz Ströhle. Ornament and Aformation”. The artist himself was present and discussed his works with curator Ingrid Adamer. Special attractions for the visitors of the “ORF – Long Night of the Museums” were the impressive presentation of a video piece by Karl-Heinz Ströhle in the former oil tank at the Otten Kunstraum as well as the musical framework by the artist who put on his favorite music.

The opening of the multi-media exhibition in the Otten Kunstraum attracted a large number of art lovers. Karl-Heinz Ströhle, who represents one of Austria´s most interesting artistic positions, shows paintings, video works, and seemingly fragile objects made of spring steel strips in the private museum in Hohenems. Ströhle impressively demonstrated how flexible and versatile his chosen medium is by putting the sculptures into gentle motion before the eyes of the viewers. The artist, who lives in Vienna, created the commissioned work “drop” on the occasion of the exhibition. The sculpture, 3.9 meters high, will remain installed in the Otten Kunstraum´s outdoor space.

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of "Art Therapy in Hohenems", the work of Heilgard Bertel and Mariann Linsi, the Atelierhaus Spitzenegg and the Otten Kunstraum invited guests to a lecture by Dr. Bettina Egger. The internationally renowned art- and psychotherapist placed her lecture, "Art and Art Therapy - Ways to Inner Order", in the context of the exhibition of works by Gottfried Honegger and his call that art have a social-political mission.

Gottfried Honegger attended the presentation of both the book and film accompanying the current exhibition. The drawings created by the artist especially for this occasion and offered at a special price met with great interest. All proceeds go to the Hilfswerk der Stadt Hohenems, the relief organization of the City of Hohenems. Children, teenagers and the young at heart were invited to play with La Viseur, developed by Gottfried Honegger.
